Jeremy was born and raised in the small town of
Norfolk, NE. Growing up he was
very active in all sports. Upon
graduating High School he chose to follow his goal of playing college
football by attending Allegheny College. After suffering a broken foot in
his sophomore season, he began to divert most of his attention to pole
vaulting. He enrolled in one of the famous Earl Bell pole vault camps in the
summer of 2001, and it was Bell who encouraged Jeremy to focus solely on
pole vaulting.
Despite the difficult decision to give up his
first love, football, the dividends rolled in immediately for Jeremy in the
pole vault. By 2002 he went on to win his second national championship and
qualified for the USA championships. His performance in the meet earned him
a spot on the NACAC team leading Jeremy to his first international Gold
Medal and a NACAC meet record. The success continued into 2003 where Jeremy
set the division 3 national record 3 times. The third record came at the US
Championships where Jeremy finished second moving him on to the World
Championships to represent the United States.
An Injury in the 2003 outdoor season slowed
Jeremy’s progress and kept him from competing. After graduating from
Allegheny with a degree in Neuroscience, he decided to make the move to
Jonesboro, AR to work full time with the great Earl Bell. Battling the
injury through the summer and fall of ’03, Jeremy decided to use his final
year of eligibility and enroll in a graduate program at the University of
Arkansas where he is studying exercise science. During the 2004 NCAA
Championships, Jeremy was considered one of the best vaulters on the runway
as he skied over his first two heights of the competition. However, on the
third height, he re-injured his hamstring forcing him to settle for a
disappointing tie for 4th place. His 4.5 points did, however, help the
Razorbacks secure their 39th team National Championship.
Since finishing up his collegiate eligibility, Jeremy
has continued to make strides towards his goal of being one of the worlds
best. In the 2005 U.S. Indoor championships Jeremy won yet another medal for
his performance. 2006 saw him focusing on strength and making major
technical changes in his run and vault with the hopes of becoming more
efficient. Although no new heights were attained, Jeremy had a streak of 12
meets where he attempted a new PR. Jeremy also made his first appearance on
the European track circuit competing in five different countries that
summer. The late summer success helped push Jeremy back into the World's top
50 and gave him the United State's top addition to the World Mark List.
Currently, Jeremy still
works with coach Earl Bell in Jonesboro, AR. Preparations for the 2008
season are underway as he aims to build momentum and to represent the United
States at the 2008 Olympic Games.
