CHRISTINE AMERTIL
STATS

In 2005 after a long consistent season running over 25 races, Christine ended up with a personal best in the 400m at her last meet of the year in Yokahama, Japan with a time of 50.09s.  In 2006 she had a great performance at the World Indoor Championships running in 50.34.

2007 proved to be a great year.  Amertil, who's training has been interrupted lately with some minor injuries, appeared to find her form right on time for the Pan Am Games. Finishing a very close 2nd in her semi-final behind Lloyd from Jamaica, Amertil clocked a season best of 51.67.  In the final Amertil drew lane 2, with both Lloyd and Guevara outside her in lanes 3 and 4. But encouraged by her return to form, Amertil was aggressive from start to finish, putting pressure on the Olympic silver medalist and favorite right out of the blocks. On this occasion however, Guevara managed to hold off the challenge from Amertil and won in a time of 50.34.  Amertil finished 2nd with yet another season's best of 50.99.

The next big meet of the season came at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka.  The heats took place on day two and Amertil easily passed onto the semifinals crossing the finish line with Joanne Cuddihy of Ireland in fourth.  With the next day came the semifinals.  Amertil was in heat 3 with the likes of Brit Nicola Sanders and American DeeDee Trotter.  It was a tough race and Amertil settled for 5th, missing the time qualification for finals.
