Born
July 5, 1981 in Washington, DC, Andre Sturdivant is a new
up and coming name to the track and field world. Raised by
a single mother, Sturdivant naturally views his mom as his
greatest role model. However, it was another role model in
that of American gold medalist Michael Johnson whom
Sturdivant watched during the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta
that got him interested in track. Sturdivant competed in
track during high school where he finished third in the
state finals in the 100 meters and was the county champion
two years in a row. He did not compete in track during
college as he focused on his academics at Montgomery
College in 2002 and finished his studies in computer
science at the University of Maryland in 2004.
Since
college Sturdivant has resurrected his track career and is
currently coached by his agent Paul Doyle. Sturdivant has
noticed great improvements over the past 6 months and
recently set his PB (personal best) times with blistering
runs of 10.23 in the 100 meters and 21.17 in the 200
meters on June 2nd in Atlanta, GA. His ultimate goal is to
run under 10 and 20 seconds respectively and to compete at
the Olympics in 2008.
In
his free time, Sturdivant works in the music industry
where he helps produce music for well-known artists such
as Akon and Young Joc. After his athletic career is over
Sturdivant would like to start his own speed-training
group and work with professional sprinters and NFL
players.
